A Little Strut

“I told my hips, ‘Behave yourselves.’

They said, ‘No, we ain’t.’”

The good shirt is on—the one without the paint.

The intentions are respectable.

The hips have other plans.

A Little Strut brings playful flirting, affectionate humor, and a reminder that being dependable doesn’t mean your joy has to stay parked outside.

There are bedroom eyes mistaken for needing a nap, a truck that apparently has soul, and a good heart finding its way back onto the floor.

Then comes the moment underneath the grin:

“I forgot I get to live here—

Not just keep the lights turned on.”

For anybody who’s been so busy carrying on that they forgot they’re allowed to enjoy being here. And for the person who pulls them closer simply because they want them there.

A little grit.

A little grin.

A little soul to spare.

“Got some joy I haven’t used—

and I’m not saving it no more.”
