Shoebox: Self Assessment Summary
Ten minutes a week, then one page in January.
Shoebox has been filing your Vinted sales all year for nothing. This is the part that turns the pile into a finished thing: one page you can keep, print, hand to an accountant, or copy straight into your tax return.
WHAT IT WORKS OUT FOR YOU
Your whole tax year added up properly, 6 April to 5 April, which is not the calendar year every platform reports on. That mismatch is the single most common thing people get wrong.
Whichever deduction saves you more, the flat £1,000 trading allowance or your real costs, chosen for you and explained in plain English rather than left as homework.
Your taxable profit, estimated income tax and Class 4 National Insurance, worked out at current rates and taking your day job into account if you have one, because that decides which band your profit lands in.
THE THINGS YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED
This is the bit that pays for itself. Most people claim nothing beyond the flat £1,000, because nobody ever told them what else counts.
Mileage to the post office and car boots. Working from home. Postage and packaging. Platform and payment fees taken before the money ever reached your bank. The business share of your phone bill. Equipment you bought to run the thing.
Shoebox goes through each one, tells you what it is typically worth, and shows you what claiming them would knock off your bill. For a lot of people that alone is worth several hundred pounds.
SO JANUARY IS BORING
It counts the weeks between today and the deadline and tells you what to put aside each week, or each month, so the bill is already sitting there when it arrives.
And if your bill goes over £1,000 it warns you about payments on account, where HMRC asks for half again toward next year at the same time. Nobody tells first timers about that, and finding out on the 30th of January is genuinely horrible.
YOUR YEAR, MONTH BY MONTH
A simple chart of when the money actually came in, your strongest month, and how many months you were really active. Useful for planning next year's stock rather than guessing.
WHERE THESE GO ON THE RETURN
The three figures you need, laid out against the boxes they belong in. No cross referencing, no working out which number goes where.
WHAT YOU GET
A one page PDF, saved from your browser, yours to keep or send on. A CSV of every figure that went into it, because accountants ask. Every tax year after this one. One payment covers 2026/27 and every year that follows.
HOW IT WORKS
Buy, get a key by email, paste it into Shoebox, press the button. Takes about thirty seconds.
You need the free Shoebox extension installed with some sales filed, otherwise there is nothing to report on. It is on the Chrome Web Store.
THE HONEST BIT
These are estimates using current rates, and they keep things simple on purpose: no student loan repayments, no Scottish rates, no personal allowance taper. It is a record keeping summary rather than tax advice, and if your situation has anything unusual in it, twenty minutes with an accountant is money well spent. The official guidance is on gov.uk.
Nothing is uploaded, nothing is shared, and no account is involved. Your sales records never leave your computer, and I could not see them if I wanted to.
Built by a computer science student who sells on Vinted too, and who wanted this before she built it. If it does not work for you, email me within 30 days and I will refund you, no argument.
