The Performance Mapping Toolkit
When performance is described vaguely (“be more proactive,” “communicate better,” “show more ownership,” or “improve customer service”), people are left to guess what success actually looks like. The Performance Mapping Toolkit gives you a simple, evidence-informed way to translate a broad workplace concern into a practical plan: the result that matters, the actions that support it, the conditions around those actions, and a useful measure of progress.
The five maps
1. Clarify the result: What workplace outcome needs to improve?
2. Map the action: What can a person do that is observable and specific?
3. Map the conditions: What in the work system supports or blocks the action?
4. Choose a measure: What simple data will help you learn?
5. Review and adjust: What should the next small test be?
