This shawl checks off a few things on my list: knit something simple that is easy to memorize, use leftovers or mini-skeins while still breaking out a new skein, and use plenty of color.


The garter stitch adds a bit of texture. I decided on this triangular shape to help move the colors around to prevent pooling.


Yarn

Blue shawl: Fiber Optic Yarns Kashmir Sock (80% Superwash Merino Wool / 10% Cashmere / 10% Nylon) (4 oz, 420 yards) Fingering weight (CYC #1): 1 skein in Peace (MC), and about 2 ounces of leftovers from the Over the Rainbow Infinity Fade (CC).


Cream with speckles shawl: LolaBean Yarn Co Wax Bean (80% Superwash Merino Wool / 20% Silk) (100g, 400 yards) Fingering weight (CYC #1): 1 skein in Yacht Rock (MC), and about 45g in Vintage Vinyl (CC).


Taupe shawl: Kim Dyes Yarn Napoleon Sock (80% Superwash Merino / 20% Silk) (100g, 400 yards) Fingering weight (CYC #1): 1 skein in Granite (MC), and 4 20g mini-skeins from Spring Fade Set (CC).


Magenta shawl: Wool and Vinyl Classic Rock Sock (80% Superwash Merino Wool / 20% Nylon) (100g, 400 yards) Fingering weight (CYC #1): 1 skein in Maneater (MC), and 3 20g mini-skeins in John, Paul, and Cheap Sunglasses (CC).


Needles

3.5 mm (US 4) circular needle or size needed to obtain gauge or appropriate for your yarn.


Notions

Tapestry needle.


Gauge

Gauge is provided so you can achieve a similar-sized shawl to the one shown here, and will have enough yarn to complete the project. Gauge is worked over garter stitch and is heavily blocked.
