I love feathers. That's no secret. I'd had this design in mind for a little while - then decided to see if I could translate the idea to a pattern - and to fabric. I'm so pleased with how it turned out!
The pattern makes a 16" block. It's perfect for using up scraps. Feathers are small, and only need a 1.5" wide strip for some of the piecing. A colouring sheet is included so you can work fabric placement before you start sewing.
Due to the nature of the pattern, it does have a lot of pieces involved but tends to look more complicated than what it actually is. Naturally there are no y-seams in this (or in any of my patterns. y-seams are yuck). Please note that the construction of the block does include sewing curves. Rather than have a very bulky centre where all the seams join up, I set this pattern out differently so that the centres of the quadrants are added after sewing the feathers. Instructions on how to add the curved sections are included with step by step photos.
Paper piecing instructions are not included. Each section is clearly labelled and seam allowance has been added for each section. All you need to do is print it out and away you go :) I suggest that you print to "Actual size".
