Kendrick Lamar: O. Henry-Style Story (Beginner Creative Writing)

What happens when a song meets the master of the twist ending? This beginner creative writing unit uses Kendrick Lamar's storytelling discography and O. Henry's writing techniques to inspire a short story with everyday characters, hidden truths, and an ending that changes everything. Students start with a personal "Writer in Me" introduction (skippable or expandable), then learn to write with a conversational voice, build toward a logical twist, and trust the reader to follow. Includes lessons on O. Henry's style, mentor texts like "The Gift of the Magi," character sheets, outlining guides, and a full teacher's guide with rubrics and pacing support. Perfect for beginner creative writing, workshops, or sub plans. No prep stress—just print and go.
