TBS-009 What One Winemaker's Pricing Decisions Tell Us About Inflation | WSJ

This is an ESL business conversation topic based on the following video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hivHztWxEj4

Lesson topics from the Talk Business Series are designed to prepare participants for speaking in workplace environments. Rather than using textbooks, Authentic Materials are used exclusively to inspire a range of speaking modalities in a real-world context.

Language Development

For language development, vocabulary, phrasal verbs, idioms, and colloquial expressions are taken directly from the video transcript and made into activities. These can be completed in class, or assigned to students as a pre-class activity.

Speaking Development

The content for speaking development is designed to guide students to use a range of speaking modalities, rather than just teaching the target language. These modalities include telling stories or sharing experiences, summarizing, explaining details, analyzing numbers, charts, graphs or infographics, giving opinions on a topic, and completing a formal speaking activity that requires the organization of ideas. Students receive both positive and constructive feedback through hot and cold correction, along with advice on how to improve their fluency, conciseness, coherence, accuracy, and range of language.

Writing Development

For writing development, students receive a follow-up activity in the form of a document with 1-3 questions that can be answered in writing via Google Docs. Students can also be offered the opportunity to record an oral response to the questions.

EXTRA CONTENT

In addition to the slides, I also provide extra content in the form of documents, which can be accessed through Google Docs and downloaded in Word or PDF formats.

Class Report

At the end of each class, students can be given a Class Report which summarizes the relevant language, class material, and feedback.

Writing Activity

As an extension to class, students can be offered a document that can be used as a follow-up activity and shared through Google Docs. Written feedback on this activity can easily be provided outside of class, at the teacher’s discretion.

Video Transcript

Students are encouraged to make a copy of the video transcript and mark up any new language they wish to learn about and use in class. While the transcript is generally provided by the video's author(s), making their own copy allows students to easily make notes and refer back to them.

TAILORED FOR ONLINE TEACHING

All of my slides are curated specifically for online teaching and include the following features:

YouTube Videos are embedded directly into the slides and clipped to fit the task on each slide (Google Slides version only).
YouTube timestamps and interactive gap fills for Language Development and pronunciation mimicking.
Links that allow for seamless navigation between slides and other resources.
Slides that are easily shareable with students so they can complete the Language Development Activities prior to class.
Slides that are designed for widescreen (16:9) in 1080p resolution.

You will receive a Google Slides version which can be downloaded into Microsoft PowerPoint. However, it is recommended that teachers use the Google Slides version for your class because the videos are embedded directly into the slides.
