Celebrate the joy of spring with this wind quartet arrangement of Sir Julius Benedict’s Old May-Day. First published in 1862 and later included in Novello’s Part-Song Book, this charming part-song sets verses by Elizabethan poets Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher. Benedict-renowned German-born composer and conductor who made his career in London-infuses the work with lyrical warmth and festive energy, perfectly capturing the spirit of traditional May Day celebrations. This arrangement brings the piece’s pastoral character to life through the colorful sonorities of flute, oboe, clarinet, and bassoon, making it a delightful addition to any concert program.
