B9) SOUTHERN RHODESIA. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY BULLETIN No. 9 is a comprehensive and authoritative report on the geology of the country west of Sinoia, Lomagundi District, by H. B. Maufe, B. Lightfoot and the late A. J. C. Molyneux, three eminent geologists of the Southern Rhodesia Geological Survey. The bulletin was published in 1923 and contains 184 pages with 18 plates and a folding map.
The bulletin covers topics such as the general features of the area, the geological history and structure, the stratigraphy and lithology of the rocks, the petrology and mineralogy of the igneous rocks, the economic geology and mineral resources (including gold, copper, iron, asbestos, chrome and coal), and some notes on fossils and water supply. The bulletin also includes a bibliography of previous works on the region.
This bulletin is a valuable source of information for anyone interested in the geology and mining potential of Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). It is based on extensive field work done by Maufe in 1917-1918 and by Lightfoot in 1919-1920, as well as on some notes left by Molyneux who died in 191812. It provides a detailed and systematic account of the geological features and mineral occurrences of one of the most important regions in Southern Rhodesia at that time.
