Indian Timing Techniques (Module One)

Module One introduces the essential framework used in Indian astrology to judge when life events unfold. Rather than treating timing techniques as isolated methods, this module shows how astrologers integrate periods, significators, and houses into a coherent system of judgment.

The focus is on understanding how daśās activate different areas of the chart, how planets function as general and specific significators, and how houses provide concrete context for interpretation. Emphasis is placed on developing clarity and consistency in reading charts, so that timing becomes a structured process rather than an intuitive guess.

This module establishes the conceptual foundation required for all further timing work. Students learn how to assess planetary periods in relation to the natal chart, how to prioritise factors, and how to avoid common errors that arise when techniques are applied without synthesis. The aim is not speed or prediction for its own sake, but sound judgment rooted in tradition and practice.

Module One is particularly suited to students who already understand the basics of astrology and want to deepen their ability to work with time in a meaningful, reliable way. It provides a stable framework you can return to repeatedly, whether you are reading your own chart or working with others.

Course curriculum

1. Guṇas

Understand the three primal forces—sattva, rajas, and tamas—and how they shape motivation, action, and outcomes. This lesson provides a qualitative lens for judging how periods unfold.

2: Pañchāṅga

Learn how the 'five limbs of time'—tithi, vāra, nakṣatra, yoga, and karaṇa—inform prediction. This lesson shows how daily time cycles add precision and context to timing techniques.

3. Viṁśottarī Daśā

Explore the structure of viṁśottarī daśā as a map of life stages. Learn how planetary periods describe development over time rather than merely isolated events.

4. Bhuktis

Understand how sub-periods modify and focus major daśās. This lesson explains why timing becomes more specific—and more nuanced—as periods subdivide.

5. Nakṣatras

Learn the names, meanings, and attributes of the lunar mansions, along with their calculation and use in interpretation. Nakṣatras reveal motivation, instinct, and the underlying tone of events.

6. Strengths

Determine planetary strength, dignity, and condition. This lesson teaches how strength and weakness shape the quality and effectiveness of daśā and transit results.

7. Transits to Signs

Understand how planetary transits influence collective trends and personal experience through the signs. Learn the differing nature of each planet for each ascendant.

8. Transits to Houses

Explore house-based transit interpretation using different house systems. This lesson shows how planets activate specific life areas as they move through the chart.

9. Retrograde Planets

Learn how retrograde planets function in daśās and transits. This lesson examines reversals, delays, intensification, and reworking of themes over time.
