DIY Floating Shelf Plans | Step-by-Step
Build your own wooden floating shelves with the same method I used in my build. These downloadable plans show you how to make up to six 18-inch shelves from one 2×8×10-foot board, using concealed wooden dowel supports.
The 6-page PDF includes:
- Materials and tools list
- Complete cut list and cutting layout
- Step-by-step instructions with build photos
- Dowel placement and alignment tips
- Finishing and mounting guidance
Each shelf measures 18 inches long and approximately 1½ inches thick. Finished depth depends on your lumber’s actual width and the material removed by your saw blade.
My estimated material cost was $24, with approximately 1–3 hours of build time. Costs vary; finishes and additional mounting hardware may cost extra.
Choose your own stain and finish to match your space.
