A City Like No Other

Seville — Sevilla in Spanish — is the capital of Andalusia and Spain's fourth-largest city, sitting on the Guadalquivir river in the far southwest of the Iberian Peninsula. It is simultaneously one of Europe's most historically significant cities and one of its most vibrant, youthful, and irresistible. The city is the birthplace of flamenco, the cultural cradle of tapas, the setting of Carmen and The Barber of Seville, home to three UNESCO World Heritage Sites within walking distance of each other, and the scene of one of the world's great nightlife cultures. It is also, in the right season, simply one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.

Seville rewards slow travel. A weekend shows you the headlines. A week reveals the barrios. Two weeks and you start to understand why people cancel their return flights. The University of Seville brings over 60,000 students, giving the city a perpetual youthful energy. Bars stay open until 6am. Restaurants don't fill until 10pm. A quiet Tuesday barely exists between September and June. This guide will help you navigate all of it — from the first morning coffee to the last churro at sunrise.
