There Is Always Room For Light: A Collection of Illustrations and Writings by Lana Hateem
Lana Hateem is a 17 year old artist in Gaza. While trying to survive bombings and massacres she has written this book of poems with her own illustrations. Every word written, every line drawn, is an act of resilience and resistance.
Every book sold goes directly to helping Lana and her family survive in Gaza.
We encourage you to give more to Lana’s survival funds if you are able: https://chuffed.org/project/150139-support-funds-for-a-family-surviving-genocide-in-gaza
More about Lana:
Lana is a creative, bright, sweet, resilient, and ambitious 17 year old. She is an artist; sister; beloved friend; and daughter; she loves to learn; she loves jewelry; and one day, she hopes to become a computer scientist. She also has a congenital heart defect, which makes surviving a genocide even more challenging. She had a pacemaker installed in 2014. Pacemakers have a battery life of 8-10 years. You can do the math. We are at a critical juncture, working desperately to try to get her evacuated so she can access life-saving surgery. In the meantime, those of us who love and support dear Lana are trying to raise funds to help keep her alive until she is able to evacuate and have this surgery. Below are the family's fixed monthly expenses, although there are often one-time urgent expenses (medical, displacement, inflation, etc.) :
Lana's heart medication: $1,000/mo
Food: $1,500/mo
Water: $100/mo
Rent: $800/mo
Education: $400/mo
Chicken Feed (they have chickens! what a beautiful and powerful thing, as a single carton of eggs can cost as much as $75): $120/mo
Total just for basic necessities (this doesn't include clothes/other personal items which the family often has to forego in order to prioritize funds for Lana's medication and the little bit of food they can afford): ~$4,000
