Ibrāhīm forsook a flourishing civilization to establish himself as a solitary nation. Yūsuf entered a civilization in chains and played a crucial role in preventing its imminent collapse.

Between these two figures stands an individual endowed with greater temporal authority and resources than either. His near contemporaries from the Prophets were assured of a promise. He was provided with resources commensurate with his morals.

Which is why he becomes the exemplar most needed by ordinary people: no prophecy, no covenant, no lineage.

Everything the narrative describes him doing involves surveying, requisitioning, labor, and metallurgy. Iron was softened in Dāwūd's hand and copper was fashioned for Sulaymān. For this man, they excavated, cut, heated, and poured.

The Qurʾān gives him sixteen āyāt and never says who he was.

3. Building the Great Barrier. The northern journey to a people who barely understood speech. Aiding the defenseless, and refusing their payment. The blocks of iron, the blowing, the molten copper. Then the honest question of where the barrier is, and an account of everyone who went looking.

4. When the Wall Falls. The breaking through, and the end of history.

Throughout, the words of the Imāms of tafsīr and ḥadīth, with the Arabic set alongside the English, every citation documented, and a full glossary and bibliography included. Where the sources rest on Isrāʾīliyyāt, that is said plainly rather than presented as description.
