A One-Act Play by Wren Valentino
Semi Finalist for the Venice Voices New Works Festival. In the early hush of dawn, two strangers, Eleanor, recently divorced and adrift, and Felix, a gay man mourning a lifetime of elusive love, meet on a quiet lot in Venice, California. Once the site of the iconic Gas House, a legendary beatnik café where her father played bongos and his mother read poetry, the space is now marked by vibrant graffiti-covered vendor stalls. Their parents’ brief affair decades ago, discovered only after their recent deaths, pulls Eleanor and Felix together across time and memory. As the Pacific sparkles behind them and palm fronds sway overhead, they sift through loss, identity, and legacy. In this fleeting but transformative morning encounter, they forge an unexpected, lasting bond, two lives momentarily illuminated by a shared past they never lived, but now, somehow, carry forward. This short play features roles for one woman and one man; both characters are in their late 40's to early 50's.
