The Highlands Aflame
Scotland is a country where the landscape remembers everything — clans, battles, kings, rebellions, whisky, and poetry — and the roads carry that history from one valley to the next. This self-drive loop is built around the Highlands but begins and ends in Edinburgh, because Scotland makes most sense when you see both sides: the ancient and the intensely modern. From the royal capital you climb north through Stirling and Glencoe, cross to the Isle of Skye, run the wild North Coast 500, then swing back through Loch Ness, Speyside whisky country, and the battlefield of Culloden. You won't just drive around Scotland — you'll follow the landscape that created it.
