Requinto Peruano
The Peruvian requinto is an electroacoustic instrument with ten steel strings arranged in 6 courses, with the first two courses being triple and the next four courses being simple.
Originally it was manufactured with 19 frets, although nowadays most Peruvian guitar or requinto manufacturers have chosen to increase the number of frets, reaching a total of 24 frets, with the 19-fret guitar almost falling into disuse.
The Peruvian requinto is a replica of the Canadian Godin A103 guitar tuned in E like the standard guitar, provided with 22 frets and 6 courses, with the first two courses being triple, and the next four courses being simple, in order to achieve a chorus effect similar to that of the 6-course double guitar (known as docerola).
There are two types of Peruvian requintos: those tuned to the note G minor (Gm), and those tuned to F minor (Fm).
Normally, a 21-fret requinto is tuned to the note G (i.e., G, D, B, G, D, G) and the 24-fret requinto would be tuned to F (F, C, A, F, C, F).
It is widely used in Peruvian folk music (especially in huayno) and is intended exclusively as a melodic instrument and not for harmonic accompaniment, unlike the Godin A10 guitar, which was made to play both.
