The Undying Lamp of Zen (or Shumon Mujintoron in Japanese) is the principle training manual for our school of Zen, laying out the framework for our style of practice and giving a clear roadmap as to how things unfold. It was written by the brilliant Torei Enji Zenji (1721–1792), who was one of the principal students of Master Hakuin, while he was ill and expecting to die.

In this book, based on transcripts of talks given in 2013, Daizan Roshi explores the Undying Lamp of Zen chapter-by-chapter. He summarises the main thrust of each chapter, elloquently and accessibly describing Torei's roadmap, urging us to continue in our practice at every step, no matter what. Each of Daizan's talks are wide-ranging, touching on all the important aspects of Zen practice.

A real gem, and a record of some of Daizan's best teaching.
