This Pumpkin Craft and Write resource has students create a seasonal pumpkin craft and then use it as inspiration for writing, reflection and literacy practice. It is a good fit for 2nd to 5th grade and works for classroom teachers, homeschool families and sub plans.

Students design a unique pumpkin using the templates, bits and pieces, pick-a-pattern pages and choice-based design elements, with a PowerPoint tutorial to guide them through the craft step by step. They then use their finished piece to inspire fiction, nonfiction and opinion writing, connecting it to the pumpkin life cycle, harvest and autumn traditions.

HOW TO USE IT

Show students the craft steps by demonstrating them or with the PowerPoint, then have them complete one or more of the writing tasks inspired by what they made. Use it for autumn writing, pumpkin crafts, fall literacy centers, seasonal bulletin boards, homeschool projects, sub plans and art integration.

Focus on one writing genre or use several across multiple days. The planners, final draft pages, peer feedback, rubrics, exit ticket and reflections give the lesson structure if you want to spread it over more than one class.
