Squeegee Kids: Understanding the Misunderstood takes viewers on the journey of a group of individuals who earn a living by washing windshields (squeegeeing) through the eyes of our main subject, 13-year-old squeegee worker Corey Thompson. The film delves into the history of squeegeeing in Baltimore with interviews from former and current squeegee workers.
It breaks down the history of systemic racist practices such as redlining (which was piloted in Baltimore in the early 20th century, Baltimore’s educational system, the lack of resources, food deserts, mental health and accountability for squeegee workers, motorists and city leaders alike. This film showcases not only how historically disenfranchised Baltimore minorities have been but despite these obstacles, their unwavering resilience to overcome. It also talks about the murder of motorist Timothy Reynolds, who was shot and killed after an altercation with a squeegee worker last year. The film features interviews from the Reynolds' family attorney, Thiru Vignarajah, defense attorney, Warren Brown, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott, Police Commissioner Michael Harrison, along with other political figures, educators, city leaders and Baltimore residents.
