Side by side, and still alone?

For Christian husbands and wives ready to try again · about 20 minutes an evening, no pressure.

You lie next to each other and still feel alone.

Every touch has started to feel like a question.

You prayed “God, restore our intimacy,” but you don’t know where to start. You want to talk, but you don’t know how to communicate anymore.

Husbands and wives have written these same words. You are not the only ones.

When you don’t know where to start, you don’t start

So the distance becomes normal. Talks turn into debates, so you stop talking. Touch feels like a question, so you stop reaching. Big plans, like a weekend away or one long talk about “the problem”, can open old wounds instead of closing them. What most couples need is smaller than that: one short evening, with the words already written.

Not theory. Thirty evenings, already written.

Thirty Evenings Back to Each Other is a workbook for Christian couples who want to find each other again. Each evening takes about twenty minutes and has the same simple shape: a verse, a short opening, one question to talk about, one gentle thing to do together, and a prayer to say out loud.

No evening ends in an expectation, and either of you can say “pause” at any time. It is the next step after Say It Gently: once you’re both at the table, this is what you do together.

Inside, you’ll discover…

  • The talking cup: a simple way to talk again when every talk turns into a debate (one speaks, one listens, both are heard)
  • Six “Are we at the table?” questions that show you whether now is the right time to start, so neither of you feels pushed
  • The Touch Ladder: eight rungs and five rules, where the more cautious spouse always sets the pace and every touch has a clear, agreed end
  • For the spouse who is “on fire”, and the spouse who doesn’t feel safe: a kind plan for each, with no shame on either side
  • If only one of you is ready: what you can do alone, a short invitation script, and what not to do
  • If closeness never really started, or if it hurts: why nothing is “broken”, and why a doctor comes before a workbook
  • “One Small Stone” and “Search Me”: how to name an old hurt without a fight, and how to own your own part
  • Forgiveness that isn’t pretending, and five repair words for coming back after a shutdown
  • “Our Bodies Now”: an honest evening about how your bodies have changed, and a doctor-visit sheet to take with you
  • “Yes, Not Yet, and No”: how to invite and how to decline kindly, so a “not yet” never wounds
  • “Our Rhythm”: a rhythm you agree on together, reviewed monthly and never a quota
  • Five parts, one gentle path: Safe Again, Close Again, Known Again, One Again, and Going On Together

This workbook is for you if…

  • You both still want to try, even if one of you is more hopeful
  • You have talked honestly at least once, and now want to know what to do
  • You want the exact words and steps, not vague advice
  • Touch has become tense, and you want closeness with no pressure
  • Your bodies have changed, or closeness never really started
  • Only one of you is ready yet, and you want to know what you can do alone

This workbook is not for you yet if…

Either of you is afraid of the other, or is being pressured, controlled or harmed. That is not a workbook problem, and no evening in this book can fix it. Please start with safety.

You haven’t yet had the first honest talk. Start with Say It Gently (payhip.com/b/OCtMw) or the short guide The First Sentence (https://payhip.com/b/Vwu1k), and come back when you can both say, “Yes, I want to try.”

A note on health: pain, a health change, new medication or difficulties from before the marriage can all have medical causes. Please see a doctor; this workbook is not medical advice.

A note from the author

This workbook grew from your comments, where so many of you prayed, “God, restore our intimacy,” and then asked what to actually do.

It gives you thirty short evenings with the words already written. Nothing is vague. No evening ends in an expectation, and either of you can say “pause”. If one of you needs to go slowly, the whole book goes slowly. That is not weakness. That is love.

I can’t promise that thirty evenings will undo thirty years. Only God heals hearts, and He does it in His own time. But you will have a clear path, the words to start, and something to do tonight while you wait on Him.

Because this is an instant digital download, all sales are final. If anything goes wrong with your file, write to us and we’ll make it right.

Questions you may have

Is it explicit?

No. It is tasteful and church-appropriate from first page to last. The evenings move gently from simply being in the same room to holding hands, sitting side by side, a long hug and a hand or shoulder rub with an agreed end time, and they go no further than that. Anything more is yours to talk about privately, at your own pace. Nothing in the book goes past the bedroom door.

Can we do it together?

That is what it is for. Each evening is written for husband and wife side by side. Take turns reading aloud: one reads the verse, the other reads the opening.

What if my spouse won’t do it?

Chapter III, "If Only One of You Is Ready", shows you what you can do alone, how to invite your spouse with one calm request, and what not to do (no quoting verses, no leaving the book on the pillow). The sampler Your First Three Evenings is the gentle thing to hand over.

Do we have to do thirty evenings in thirty days?

No. Many couples do three or four evenings a week and take about two months. If you miss a night, don’t start over. Just do the next one. Mornings work too.

Is it a physical book? Can I print it?

It is an instant PDF download for a phone, tablet or computer. A printer-friendly edition is included for the worksheets, the tracker and the 24 cut-out cards. Nothing is posted to your home.

What if one of us has pain or our bodies have changed?

Read chapter IV, "If It Never Started, or It Hurts", before Evening 1. Pain is a medical signal, not a spiritual failure. See a doctor first; the doctor-visit sheet helps you prepare. The workbook is not medical advice.

What if our situation is serious?

If either of you is afraid, controlled or harmed, put the workbook aside and get help first (numbers above). If you’re stuck in the same fight, a Christian couples counselor can help, and the "When to Get More Help" pages explain which kind of help fits which problem.
