Social Story to Reduce Biting Behaviors:

This social story emphasizes positive reinforcement, helping students learn what to do when they feel angry, frustrated, or bored.

Research shows that teaching students appropriate behaviors in response to their emotions is more effective than simply telling them to stop undesirable actions. If you focus on the negative behavior (e.g., "no biting"), students may just hear the word "biting", therefore placing it forefront in their mind. Rather, comment on what you would like to see them doing (e.g. "take some deep breaths", "ask for help" etc.).

  • Enhances Communication: Provides structure for learning and practicing communication skills.

This social story has been created using a PowerPoint presentation and can be customized using PowerPoint.
