The Jumbie Bridge was the very first story I ever wrote. Although the idea never left me, I always felt something was missing. So I set it aside and continued my journey, writing other tales, learning my craft, and finding my own voice.

Only after completing several stories did I return to it.

This is the version I always wanted to write.

Unlike my Victorian Gothic tales, The Jumbie Bridge is deeply rooted in the heart of the Caribbean. It is written in the voice of our people, shaped by our landscapes, our traditions, and the old stories whispered from one generation to the next. It is a love letter to Trinidadian folklore and to the mysterious world that so many of us grew up hearing about.

After a long day's work on a cocoa estate, young Jim has only one thing on his mind—getting home before nightfall. But a sudden tropical downpour traps him until darkness blankets the countryside. Faced with a long journey or a forgotten shortcut known only as the Old Trace, he makes a choice that countless elders would have warned against.
