The Case of the Changing Chocolate | Kitchen Science Detectives
Two matching chocolate badges. One puzzling change. What happened to Badge B?
Young detectives join QuackPot and Spatch to compare story records, choose the explanation that fits, and use a cooling clue to plan a star-shaped badge.
WHAT YOU GET
- One complete 8-page mystery, supplied in illustrated and low-ink PDF editions.
- Four child activity pages: story, evidence, reasoning and a new-shape challenge.
- Adult quickstart, gradual hints, explained answers and background science sources.
- A short printing guide.
The two editions contain the same case: 8 unique pages, not 16 different activities.
DESIGNED FOR
Ages 7-10 with adult reading support as needed. Allow around 20-25 minutes; timing and age fit are design estimates and have not yet been validated in a family pilot. Children may answer aloud, point, circle, draw or write.
LOW PREPARATION
Print pages 3-6 from one edition and bring a pencil. The adult guidance can stay on screen. No ingredients, cooking, tasting, cutting, external video or specialist equipment needed.
SCIENCE WITH EVIDENCE
Practice distinguishing observations from explanations, comparing matched starting conditions, and explaining why chocolate can become firm again without regaining its old shape. The supplied observations are invented for a learning model; this is a paper investigation, not a practical experiment or a claim of real test results.
FORMAT
Digital PDF download in a ZIP file. US Letter pages; use Fit in your printer dialog for other paper sizes and check the preview. No physical product is included.
