Ori Wrap crochet pattern
⚠️ WARNING: This is not a traditional pattern. There is no gauge. There is no yarn weight requirement. Bring your scraps and your sense of adventure.
The Ori wrap top is origami magic. We make two hexagons, fold them, sew them together, add a collar and a belt and ta-da! No fancy stitches here: we merely alternate front post double crochets with double crochets for that ribbed effect, and when the hexagons are folded, a geometric, origami-esque aesthetic is created.
This is an incredibly therapeutic make: in each round, you simply have to repeat the stitch from the previous round.
There are two options when it comes to the sleeves: three-quarters kimono sleeves (green version) or full length slightly ballooned cuffed sleeves for winter (ivory/neon version). Another option for personalisation is with the belt. You can either make the belt to tie at the back only (green version), or make a longer belt that can also tie at the front (ivory/neon version). The waistband can be made as wide as you wish.
This pattern has no sizing or gauges. Because the wrap top is constructed from two hexagons that are the left and right bodice halves, we will make more rounds if we need more length or width. That means the hook size and number of rounds you need to make in your hexagons all depends on the beautiful yarn you have chosen for this project.
Who is the crochet pattern for:
This crochet pattern is suitable even for advanced beginners who want to graduate past beanies and scarves, to tackle their first crochet garment.
If you want to make a garment with ribbing details but find it too daunting, this is a good start.
If you are frightened by the typical crochet pattern with its daunting parentheses and abbreviations, this pattern is the kind aunt who holds your hands. The Ori Wrap has adjustable sizing, as in you measure as you go along, so you don't have to print out and highlight the relevant parts/stitch counts.
What you need:
The sizing methodology in this crochet pattern is rather unorthodox.
Still, you will need at least this much yarn for your off-the-rack size:
XS/ US 0-2/ EUR 30-32: 450g
S/ US 4-6/ EUR 34-36: 480g
M/ US 8-10/ EUR 38-40: 500g
L/ US 12-14/ EUR 42-44: 550g
XL/ US 16-18/ EUR 46-48: 650g
Additionally: Measuring tape, stitch markers, tapestry needle, scissors.
What this crochet pattern contains:
We all have different bodies and personalities, and if you are going to sit down and make your own clothes, then it better be exactly what you want, and not what the pattern says you should do. I show you ways to vary this pattern: the sleeves, cuffs, the waistband, accommodating bigger busts...
The pdf is 43 pages because it is formatted to be legible on your mobile phones without zooming in and panning. It is also available in an ebook (.epub) format.
