What are they? How do you get one? Do I have to feed them? Are they really secret spies?

This book by seasoned writer Bjorn Furuknap walks you through the basics of creating your first AI agent, with step by step guidance, templates to use, and important tips on how to be successful with agent development.

In this book, we'll talk through the concrete steps of going from a blank text document to an actual agent doing real work.

The example we will use is a research agent, who will be able to run research on anything like products, companies, or people.

The agent will be model, harness, and platform independent, meaning you can run it on any provider, in any program, and local or in the cloud.

You have a general idea about how to talk with LLMs beyond just a chatbot. You understand what context and context windows are, for example, and you understand how LLMs can seem human but need to be treated as a walking ticking bomb.

You have either Codex or Claude Code or a similar app installed. I recommend doing this from a desktop computer.
