The Starlights Quilt

A design that combines two of my favourite quilt elements – stars and Irish chains - to create a design that looks like strings of fairy lights looping across a landscape of stars. This quilt features fancy sashing which creates another star between each block. The combination of grey with yellow is always a winner, but here the pops of bright solids add an extra dimension. I think this would work very well as a Christmas quilt if the strings of lights were in red and green fabrics instead!

Four different bright solids for the lights : ¼ yard / ¼ metre of each
(pink, turquoise, orange and green)
A mix of yellow fabrics for the stars: ½ yard / ½ metre
A mix of light and mid grey fabrics for the background: 2½ yards / 2½ metres
A mix of dark grey fabrics for the background: ¾ yard / 0.7 metres
A mix of solid grey fabrics for the sashing and border: 1½ yards / 1.4 metres
Binding fabric: ½ yard / ½ metre
Backing fabric: 4¼ yards / 4 metres
Wadding: 76” x 76” / 2M square
