As with a lot of the north Kent coast there is an opportunity to see several of the less commonly seen species especially during the periods of migration when all sorts of things can appear for a few days and then move on. Most winters see hundreds of Dark-Bellied Brent Geese either on the mud flats or in the fields behind the sea wall near Reculver. Short-eared Owls often hunt on the farmland and rough pasture close to the coast. The area around Foreness Point can be good for sea watching and many waders feed out on the shore as the tide recedes. Most years Purple Sandpipers can be seen around this headland.
