This Annotated PDF version of A Biblical Perspective on War [1698] is one of the selections in Strait Gate Publications' Annotated Theological Library, G. Wm. Foster, Jr., Ed. Copyright 2016 by Strait Gate Publications, Charlotte, NC.

The author of these two sermons, Rev. John Edwards (1637-1716) — not to be confused with the distinguished New England pastor-theologian of the Great Awakening, Rev. Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) — was a reformed Church of England minister of great reputation for his devotion to Holy Scripture and its powerful exposition.

The 1st sermon provides a brief biblical, though comprehensive, survey of both Testaments on “The Lawfulness and Necessity of Going to War, on Just Occasions.” The conclusion consists of six practical instructions on how a solider is to conduct himself on the field of battle.

In the 2nd sermon, “The True Causes of the Ill Success of War” is more closely examined from Holy Scripture. The timeless and universal biblical principles related to this subject are pointedly and practically applied.

This reset, modernized format version was published in 2016. Editorial Endnotes and Glossary sections have been added at the end of the book, as well as an exhaustive Scripture Index and Scripture Links. It is internally linked for maximum maneuverability within the document.
