Preliminary Concepts in Baromedicine is a concise introduction to the quantitative foundations of diving and hyperbaric medicine.

The booklet covers the mathematics, physics and statistical concepts needed to understand topics such as pressure, gas exchange, diffusion, decompression, respiratory mechanics, fluid flow, risk and mathematical modelling.

Concepts are developed progressively and illustrated with worked examples drawn from diving and hyperbaric medicine. The emphasis is on physical understanding and practical application rather than mathematical rigour.

Originally developed as preparatory material for Higher Specialist Training in Baromedicine in Malta, the booklet is intended for physicians and other professionals who want a stronger quantitative foundation for understanding the field.
