Spring Ladybug Art Project Spring Ladybug Drawing Primary Spring Art Activity
In this Spring Ladybug Art Project, students learn to draw a ladybug and turn it into a bright spring artwork using oil pastel, paint, texture techniques and collage. Along the way they explore line, shape, color, texture and composition.
Students start by drawing a ladybug step by step from simple shapes, which builds confidence in drawing insects. They color and outline it with oil pastels, try a scratch texture technique, and then assemble the final artwork with layered paper pieces to create a spring scene. The finished pieces are bold, colorful and full of texture, and they look great on spring bulletin boards, in hallway displays or at seasonal art shows.

WHAT STUDENTS LEARN
Students draw a ladybug with guided step-by-step instructions, explore symmetry as they place the spots on the wings, and color it with red and black oil pastels. They create texture in the oil pastel with a scratch technique, then cut and assemble paper shapes into a spring composition, combining drawing, coloring, texture and collage in one finished artwork.
The lesson fits spring art lessons, insect or bug units, elementary art classrooms, homeschool art, sub plans and seasonal displays. The clear step-by-step drawing instructions are easy for students to follow independently.
