RAGUETTE NO. 1 for solo guitar by Dusan Bogdanovic

Not unlike the relationship between a sonatina and a sonata, Raguette No. 1 bears an overall affinity to the Indian raga. The introductory section, analogous to the alap of a raga, establishes the general mood and introduces the thematic material from which the rest of the piece develops.

The sequence of modes gradually introduced in this opening section provides the formal blueprint for the structure of the work. Raguette No. 1 is also an early example of my interest in bringing together elements of classical, jazz, and world music within a single compositional language.
