Four in the morning, coffee black, truck loaded in the dark — some of God's greatest cathedrals don't have walls.

The alarm went off at four but he was already dressed. There's a creek bed three mountains down that his dad showed him thirty years ago, and no church on earth has ever come close to matching that October still. First Light and Cold Water is a reverent, bone-deep love letter to the hunters and fishermen who understand that holy ground is wherever the elk come down at sunrise and the current runs cold and honest. Bagpipes rise slow like the sun cresting a ridge. Pedal steel moves underneath like water finding its way home. This one's for everyone who's ever sat on a hillside watching a six-point for an hour and never once reached for the rifle — because the moment was already enough. - Original by Saddle Storms.

Lyrics: Alarm went off at four but I was already dressed Coffee black and steaming in the cold October mist Loaded up the truck bed in the dark without a sound There's a place I know about three mountains down Dad showed me that creek bed thirty years ago Said son some things you only learn when everything is slow The elk come down at sunrise to the meadow by the hill And there ain't a church on earth that matches that October still You can keep your neon lights and your city sounds Give me river rock beneath my boots on holy ground First light and cold water, rifle on my back Waders in the truck bed and I ain't looking back This is where I go to find what words can't say Between the elk and the trout on an early autumn day First light and cold water, smoke on the hill There's a kind of peace out here that nothing else can fill God built this cathedral long before man ever stood First light and cold water Lord it's good Waded in at sunrise, current cold as stone Cast out to the deep water, out there all alone Watched an osprey hit the surface like a feathered knife Man there are some mornings you're just glad to be alive Got a six point on the ridge about a half mile east Sat and watched him for an hour, didn't even need to shoot the beast Just a man and a mountain and a moment standing clear This is why I do it This is why I'm here You can keep your neon lights and your city sounds Give me river rock beneath my boots on holy ground First light and cold water, rifle on my back Waders in the truck bed and I ain't looking back This is where I go to find what words can't say Between the elk and the trout on an early autumn day First light and cold water, smoke on the hill There's a kind of peace out here that nothing else can fill God built this cathedral long before man ever stood First light and cold water Lord it's good My grandfather walked these same hills My father showed me the way And someday I'll walk beside someone Who needs to learn what this place has to say That the land remembers everything The water knows your name And every time you come back here You're never quite the same First light and cold water, rifle on my back Waders in the truck bed and I ain't looking back This is where I go to find what words can't say Between the elk and the trout on an early autumn day First light and cold water, smoke on the hill There's a kind of peace out here that nothing else can fill God built this cathedral long before man ever stood First light and cold water Lord it's good Lord it's good Lord it's good
