The Phönix D.III. Production, Transfer, and Service in Sweden, 1918–1933.
The Phönix D.III was one of the last fighter aircraft developed by the Austro–Hungarian aircraft industry during the First World War. Built too late to establish a combat record, its story continued after the collapse of the Monarchy – most notably in Sweden, where the type remained in service until 1933.
This book traces the Phönix D.III from its production and post-war transfer to Sweden through more than a decade of Swedish service. Drawing on archival documents, contemporary newspapers, photographs and newly identified evidence, it examines the aircraft’s production, individual histories, accidents, modifications, engines and markings.
Richly illustrated with contemporary photographs, colour profiles and technical information, the book provides the most detailed reconstruction to date of the Phönix D.III’s Swedish career.
