MCP Server Starter bundle: both spec versions (2025-11-25 and 2026-07-28), Python, no dependencies
Two small stdio MCP servers in plain Python, standard library only: one for spec 2025-11-25 and one for the newer stateless spec 2026-07-28. Each has three example tools, an offline test client with unit tests, and a 12 point checklist.
Long description
This bundle holds both of our MCP Server Starters, so you can pick the one that matches the clients you use.
mcp-server-starter: speaks MCP protocol version 2025-11-25 over stdio (initialize, tools/list, tools/call, ping). 26 tests.
mcp-server-starter-2026: speaks the newer stateless version 2026-07-28 (server/discover, per request _meta, tools/list, tools/call). 30 tests.
A client that speaks only one version cannot use the other server. Each folder has its own README, quick start, config shapes for Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code, a checklist, SOURCES.md and a licence.
The tests ran from a clean unzip on Python 3.9.6 on macOS. We avoided syntax newer than Python 3.8 but did not run it on 3.8. We have not run either server inside Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor or VS Code, so a config may need changes. Neither is a security audit or an official conformance suite.
Priced at $12 for both. Each is also sold on its own for $7.
License
One person per license. You may use servers you build from it commercially. Reselling or sharing the starters themselves is not allowed. See LICENSE.txt in each folder.
