Zodiacal Year

Archival giclée print, hand-finished with gold leaf and naturally-dyed silk thread, 30x30cm (12x12").

A depiction of the zodiac signs as they were pictured in Islamic lands between the 12th and 14th centuries, in correspondence with the four points of the year (Solstices and Equinoxes). The symbols accompanying them also come from Islamic sources and the threads indicate the element with which each sign is associated.

This image comes from my artist book Circles of Time and was slightly adjusted to work as a standalone piece.
