The Corded Ware culture bursts onto the European scene around 2900 BC, marking a turning point in the continent’s prehistoric story. Best known for its distinctive cord-impressed pottery, which are simple, beaker-like vessels decorated by pressing twisted cords into wet clay. This culture spread rapidly across much of northern and central Europe. Corded Ware communities also practiced highly symbolic burials, typically interring individuals in single graves beneath small mounds, with men and women laid on opposite sides and accompanied by grave goods like stone battle-axes. Corded Ware culture likely introduced indo-european languages into europe.

For this video, I’ve gathered the genome of PNL001, a 2900 BC sample from czechia showing high affinities to the proto-indo europeans with minimal farmer and hunter gatherer admixture.
