Cuore - “heart” in Italian - is a modern take on a timeless motif. A simple, relaxed silhouette is paired with geometric hearts in a design that is playful, graphic, and very wearable.

A fun and entertaining knit, the poncho is worked flat as a rectangular panel, then folded in half widthwise and seamed at one shoulder. The finished piece has a comfortable amount of positive ease and can be worn two ways: with the seam on the shoulder as an asymmetrical piece or with the seam at the back.

Cuore features a lace panel along the edge with several lines of simple lace breaking up stockinette. The cast on and bind off edges are decorated with lace patterns as well. The rolled boat neck is achieved with naturally curling stockinette edging.

Instructions are both charted and written out.

Construction

  • The poncho is worked flat as a rectangular panel. It starts and ends with a small lace edging. A heart motif is running along one edge and smaller lace lines break up stockinette.
  • Once finished, the cast on and bind off edges are aligned and the panel is seamed along the stockinette edge to create the shoulder.
  • The left side of the panel is worked in plain stockinette all the way to the edge so that after the piece is seamed, it gets the rolled boat neck thanks to the curling nature of stockinette.
  • The pattern has instructions for adjusting both the width and the length of the poncho.
