Crisantemi (Chrysanthemums) arr. for Woodwind Quintet
Puccini's gorgeous string quartet Crisantemi (Chrysanthemums) has been skillfully adapted for woodwind quintet by L. C. Harnsberger. This is one of Puccini's rare instrumental works that has unfortunately been overshadowed by his numerous operas. Audiences will be mesmerized by the beautiful melody and bold chromaticism.
Crisantemi was written as an elegy for the 1890 death of Puccini's friend the Duke of Aosta (formerly King Amadeo I of Spain). Puccini claimed that he was so moved by the passing of his friend that he composed the entire piece in one night. Crisantemi features a wide emotional and dynamic range which makes it a perfect addition to any concert.
