Tradition (Includes A New Tradition Educational Edition)

Tradition is a lyrical beginning band composition that explores expressive playing through simple musical materials. Written using the first six notes and lower leading tone of the Concert B♭ scale, the piece encourages students to develop beautiful tone, phrasing, balance, and ensemble listening while performing music that is both accessible and meaningful.

A New Tradition is an alternative edition of Tradition that invites students into the interpretive process. While the notes remain the same, expressive markings have been intentionally omitted, allowing ensembles to make their own decisions about dynamics, articulation, phrasing, and style. It provides an opportunity for students to develop musical understanding by creating an interpretation that reflects their ensemble.
