In Sweden, one person is killed per 100,000 inhabitants per year, and in the USA it is common for 6 to 7 people to be killed by violence.

Worst year 21,000 killed (Sweden 120). The statistics show that in the USA the death rate due to lethal violence is much higher than in Sweden. If you compare assassinated heads of state, Sweden has had a King assassinated in 1792. In the USA, four presidents have been assassinated. The risk of ending up in prison in the USA is also much higher in the USA than in Sweden. The United States is the country with the most incarcerated citizens. About 2,200,000 people, or 3.2 percent of the adult population, are imprisoned in the United States, and about 7,000,000 are under supervision of some form in the correctional system, including parole and probation.

In Sweden, you have to go back in time to the early 18th century to find as many murders per inhabitant as in the United States today. If one were to compare the number and percentage of incarcerated people in the USA today with Sweden, and if the USA had had Sweden's statistics instead, the USA would have 1.8 million fewer people in prison. Which is like the entire population of Stockholm and Gothenburg.
