Brioche Kitty Hat

This is my personal take on the Pussy Hat: a large and loose-fitting brioche hat, knit with single-ply Merino and Mohair held together, a folded brim and the signature shape that couldn’t be simpler to knit.

Wear it to the Women’s March on Washington D.C., to support the PussyHat Project or just to keep warm and look cute. (And yes, you can look cute and be a strong independent woman at the same time!)

The hat is knit in the round with three options for finishing the top: grafting, seaming or three-needle bind off.

Yarn:
1 color of DK weight yarn (A) + 1 color lace weight Mohair (B)

Yardage:

• Color A (DK): 219 m / 240 yards
• Color B (Mohair): 126 m / 138 yards

Gauge: 16 sts / 24 rows = 10 cm / 4” in brioche stitch (unblocked)

Finished Size: 49 cm / 19.25“ circumference, 27 cm /10.5” high (with brim unfolded) to fit medium sized head
The pattern includes instructions on how to customize it for your head circumference and to knit it at a different gauge with different yarn weight.

Needles: US 6/4.0 mm circulars or DPNs (or size needed to obtain gauge), US 7/4.5 mm needles for CO

Notions: tapestry needle, 1 stitch marker, optional: DPN for three-needle bind off

Meine Version des Pussy Hat ist eine große und locker sitzende Patent-Haube mit Krempe. Durch die sehr einfache Form (ganz ohne Abnahmen) entstehen die Katzenohren ganz von selbst.

Egal, ob du die Haube als Teil des PussHat Project zum Women’s March on Washington D.C. strickst oder einfach nur so: deine Ohren bleiben mit dieser süßen Haube in jedem Fall wunderbar warm.
(Und ja: Auch als starke, unabhängige Frau, die für ihre Rechte eintritt, darf man süß aussehen!)

Die Haube wird in der Runde gestrickt, mit je einem Faden Merinowolle und einem Faden Mohair. Für das Schließen der oberen Naht gibt es drei Optionen.
