It was a hot summer day and the sun beat down fiercely through the bedroom window of Barbie, a beautiful curvy plus sized college student. She lounged on the bed in a tiny miniskirt and skimpy tank top, admiring her voluptuous figure in the full length mirror. Her boyfriend Ben, also overweight, sat cross-legged on the floor, playing video games on his phone.

Barbie had a secret obsession - shrinking people down to tiny size. For months, she had been surreptitiously using an experimental shrink ray app, secretly reducing random objects and insects around the house just to see how it worked. She was getting bolder by the day in her experiments.

"Ben, I need to ask you something," Barbie said, sauntering over and standing her phone right above Ben's head. She opened the app, her fingers trembling slightly. "Um, hold still for a sec babe."

Ben grunted, absorbed in his game. "Yeah? What is- whoa!"

Barbie pressed the button and a green beam shot out, engulfing Ben's body. He screamed as he began rapidly shrinking before Barbie's wide eyes. 6 feet tall, 5'8", 5'6", 5 feet, 4 feet, 3 feet, 2 feet, 1 foot...

In mere seconds, Ben had shrunk down to the size of a tiny insect, no bigger than a cricket. "HOLY SHIT!" he shouted, his voice now comically high-pitched. "Barbie, what the hell? Unshrink me right now!"

Barbie laughed, giddy with power. "Oh I don't think so, lover boy! Aren't you adorable!" She scooped up the miniscule Ben in her palm, marveling at his terrified, bug-sized expression. "Mmm, I could just eat you up! My own little pet boyfriend!"

Ben squirmed. "Barbie please, this isn't funny! I'm serious, change me back now before it's too late!"

Just then, the front door slammed. "Barbie honey, I'm home!" called her mother Joan from the hallway. Barbie's eyes widened in panic.

Quickly, she set Ben down on the hardwood floor and hurriedly smoothed her skirt. "Coming mom!" she called out, trying to sound normal.

Joan's footsteps approached and Barbie's heart raced. She prayed her mother wouldn't notice anything amiss. Ben remained motionless in the center of the room, hugely exposed in his shrunken state...

Suddenly, Joan appeared in the doorway. Barbie's heart leaped into her throat as her mother's eyes swept the room - and landed right on the teeny figure of Ben.

"Barbie, what in wor-" Joan started to say. Then her eyes went wide and her painted lips formed an "O". Before Barbie could react, Joan gasped and lurched to the side - her high heel clog foot came down on Ben with a sickening "pop"!

Barbie stood paralyzed with shock. Joan froze, looking down at the floor with a horrified expression. Tiny flecks of blood and viscera speckled the wood. The once vibrant, terrified minature man was utterly crushed into a flat smear. Dead in an instant.

Barbie's knees went weak. She felt faint, the room spinning. This couldn't be happening... Ben couldn't really be... Her ears roared and her vision tunneled.

"W-what have I done?!" she heard Joan wail. "Oh god, I've killed him! Quick Barbie, grab a towel or something before the neighbors notice!"

In a daze, Barbie stumbled to the bathroom and fetched a wad of toilet paper. In the hallway, she nearly gagged as she knelt down and dabbed at the bloody smear that had been Ben mere moments ago. Joan paced the room, hyperventilating.

"Ok, the body is gone," Barbie muttered, rising on wobbly legs. "Now we have to figure out what to do..."

Joan whirled on her, eyes wild. "What do you mean WE? This is your fault, you stupid girl! What was that thing doing in the middle of the floor?! And why, for god's sake, was he so tiny?!"

Barbie pursed her lips, realizing she was in trouble. "I... I shrunk him with this app I found online. I thought it would be funny!"

"FUNNY?!" Joan shrieked. "Well, I'm sure he's having a great old time now! Oh honey, what are we going to do? The police are going to come asking questions! Do you have any idea how much trouble you're in?!"

Barbie's head spun. She couldn't believe this was really happening. She swallowed hard.

"I'll tell them he left me. No one has to know about the shrinking thing..." She looked at her mother pleadingly. "You won't tell, will you? Mom, please!"

Joan pursed her lips, studying her daughter. Then she sighed deeply. "I guess I have no choice, do I? But Barbie... you are in SO much trouble, young lady! We'll deal with this later, but right now, we need to get our story straight. And burn that godforsaken phone." She shook her head. "You are going to be the death of me, I swear..."

Barbie collapsed onto the bed and burst into tears, the horrible events finally hitting her. Her boyfriend was dead. Crushed like a bug by her own mother's carelessness. Because of her stupid, reckless obsession with shrinking people. What had she done...?
