A will that is fine in Ontario can fail in Nova Scotia.

The complete 145-page will kit as a PDF, page for page identical to the paperback. Read it on a phone, a tablet or a laptop, and print the pages you want to work on. Your copy is watermarked to you, and downloads immediately after purchase.

How many witnesses you need, whether marrying cancels what you already wrote, what happens if you and your spouse die in the same accident, whether a court can rescue a will that was signed the wrong way — the answers are different in different parts of Canada. Most kits average them. This one answers each place separately.

• Twelve jurisdiction guides — the nine common-law provinces and all three territories, with the same eleven questions answered in the same order for each.

• A completed specimen will, with a note beside every clause explaining what it does and why it is there — marked on every page so it can never be mistaken for a form to fill in.

• The worksheets, in the order the will asks for them: your executor and the backup nobody names; who raises your children, and the separate appointment several places require for a child's money; what you own; who gets what; and the page that tells whoever is left where everything is kept.

• Every statement of law keyed to the Act it came from, with those sources printed at the back — including what each source itself says about how current it is. Where the law is genuinely unsettled, this book says so instead of smoothing it over.

• The fillable forms for your own jurisdiction, downloaded with the code printed inside the book: the will, a matching pair for two people, the executor and guardian worksheet, the asset and gift list, the signing checklist and the where-things-are page. Ordinary PDFs — type into them with a current PDF reader, or print them and use a pen. No account, no email address, and nothing you type is sent anywhere.

What this book does not do. It is a will book, and only a will book. Powers of attorney, representation agreements, and health or personal directives are not covered in these pages and are not among the forms. Quebec is not covered — its law of succession sits outside the tradition the other twelve share. And it never says that a particular will is valid: the requirements are set out so that you can see them.
