In 1927, William L. Wrigley Jr, the American chewing gum industrialist, founded a tile and brick pottery on Santa Catalina Island off the coast of California. Over the next few years Catalina Island Pottery would use locally sourced materials to create intricate tiles, souvenirs, and housewares while providing year-round employment for island residents. After his passing in 1932 the Wrigley Memorial & Botanic Garden was built in his honour. The memorial was built using tiles made by Catalina Island Pottery and is where the inspiration for the Wrigley Pillow Cover comes from.
