Direct Care Worker Competency Test- Skills Checklist
In accordance with Pennsylvania home care regulations, before a direct care worker commences their duties, the home care agency or registry must confirm that the worker has successfully completed a competency examination or training program.
This program must, at a minimum, address the following essential subject areas: 1. Confidentiality. 2. Consumer control and the principles of independent living. 3. Instrumental activities of daily living. 4. Identification of changes in the consumer that require intervention. 5. Fundamental infection control measures. 6. Implementation of universal precautions. 7. Procedures for handling emergencies. 8. Standards for documentation. 9. Recognition and reporting of abuse or neglect. 10. Approaches for managing challenging behaviors.
