Stylish shaping and patterning on this vest is reminiscent of a gentleman’s tailored waistcoat. Intarsia shapes on the front echo the striping created with self-patterning yarn on the back. Applied I-cord on all the edges provides the finishing touch for this waistcoat.
This knitting pattern includes written directions, charts for intarsia colourwork, front and back images, instructions for both male and female button placement, and a schematic with measurements.

Substitution Notes
Any self-patterning sock weight or fingering yarn paired with a coordinating solid-coloured yarn may be used. Choose a yarn with easy care instructions. Superwash wool and sock yarns (whether wool or cotton blends) will work wonderfully. The self-patterning yarn may be substituted with a solid colour, a variegated yarn or a gradient yarn.
This vest would also be fun knit with many remnants of solid yarns from your stash.
Techniques
Increases/decreases, short rows, three-needle bind-off, working intarsia from a chart, knowledge of sweater construction, applied i-cord.
