The RRSP Meltdown — Digital Edition (PDF) · 2026 Edition
A registered plan is taxed on the way out. The ten years you spend it are the ten years that decide the bill.
The complete 148-page workbook as a PDF, page for page identical to the paperback. Read it on a phone, a tablet or a laptop, and print the worksheet pages you want to write on. Your copy is watermarked to you, and downloads immediately after purchase.
Which account comes out first, how much comes out each year, when the pension starts and whose return the income lands on are four separate choices, and every one of them moves the tax. The RRSP Meltdown computes them — one household in British Columbia, ten years, every figure generated by the engine that printed it and none of them typed in by hand.
• The rules, one page each: the conversion deadline and what it is actually a deadline on · the prescribed minimum, year by year · locked-in accounts and the maximum that caps them · the pension income credit and the age amount, and which of the two the Income Tax Act leaves unindexed · the Old Age Security recovery tax and the income it begins at · withholding, and why it is not the tax owed. Every rule carries the statute, Regulation or 2026 payroll table it came from, with the date it was read.
• Seven decisions, ranked: the order the accounts are drawn in · the meltdown window · how fast · the pension and Old Age Security start ages · which account the growth sits in · moving pension income to the other return · the younger-spouse election. Each one is computed both ways and printed beside the assumptions it kept the same, so the arithmetic can be checked rather than believed.
• Thirteen worksheets: your accounts, your balances, your handwriting — with a stopping rule, a trial record, and a third ending for the years a required minimum or an account limit blocks the route you wanted.
• It does not tell you which route to take. It runs each one, ranks them by the figure it computed, and says what it kept the same. Every computed figure belongs to an invented household whose balances are printed in full, so any page can be checked against a worked one.
• 2026 Edition. Every figure is the 2026 figure, read from the issuing source on a printed date — including the payroll tables that were republished mid-year. The code printed in the book opens the year’s figures page at estatecanada.ca and a dated record of anything that changed after the edition closed.
