Pinoxaden Patent Landscape Analysis

Developed by Syngenta and commercialised through the Axial® herbicide family, pinoxaden is a leading post-emergence selective grass herbicide for wheat and barley. The updated landscape retains 253 patent families across 130 consolidated owner groups. Syngenta’s originator estate holds 43 families across five of the six substantive protection layers, but follow-on manufacturing and mixture development now extends across a large population of Chinese, Indian and multinational applicants.

Pesticide combinations dominate with 137 families held by 78 groups. Thirty-eight partner active ingredients are named in claims and a further 49 families use broader combination language. The upstream estate contains nine compound, three crystal-form and 66 process and manufacturing families, while 28 families protect formulation concepts. Overall, 196 families have a granted-active or national-pending reading, and 19 live families reach their nominal term within five years.
