Maroons of the New World
Who were the Maroons? And how much colonizer butt did they kick?

The Maroons were liberated freemen in various regions throughout the Caribbean and Americas. They established small colonies where they were allowed to practice their traditions, while routinely freeing enslaved peoples and defending their lands from their aggressors. Some Maroon colonies still stand today, ruled by the descendants of these proud people.
Maroons Reborn
There are very few represenations of Maroons in popular media. Film & Television producers often dismiss powerful ideas about Black history as "too niche" or simply uninteresting. But modern creators are breaking down the walls of ignorance and uplifting these stories. The 2018 run of Black Panther introduced "The Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda", in which the Maroons were adapted as the rebel force against the empire.
